Why people love it

Wave-watching, intimate trails, excellent food, and the feeling that wild scenery begins at the edge of town.

Local history and character

The Yachats area is part of the homeland of the Alsea people. Its later history includes a difficult reservation era, homesteading, and tourism, with the community growing into an arts-minded village beside Cape Perpetua.

Yachats is compact enough to experience on foot yet surrounded by scenery that can fill days. Black volcanic rock, spruce forest, coves, trails, and the looming slopes of Cape Perpetua give the village an unusually immersive sense of place.
