Oregon weather and road conditions can change quickly, especially along the coast, through the Columbia River Gorge and over mountain passes in the Cascades and Siskiyous. TripCheck is ODOT's official traveler information service and should be one of your last checks before leaving home.

What You Can Check on TripCheck
- Road closures and incidents: See crashes, blocked highways, detours and other reported trouble spots.
- Traffic cameras: View current camera images from highways, mountain passes and major routes across Oregon and nearby portions of neighboring states.
- Winter road conditions: Check snow, ice, roadside weather, chain requirements and mountain-pass conditions before traveling.
- Construction and maintenance: Review work zones, scheduled projects and delays that may affect your route.
- Traffic speeds and travel times: Check congestion and estimated travel times on supported routes, including the Portland metropolitan area.
- Traveler services: Find rest areas, Sno-Parks, scenic byways and public transportation information.
Check the Entire Route Before You Leave
Do not check only the weather at your destination. Conditions may be completely different between the Willamette Valley, the coast, the Gorge and higher elevations. Look at the full route, including every mountain pass, and review camera images when snow, ice, flooding, wildfire smoke or high winds are possible.
Navigation apps may not recognize a newly closed road or may suggest an unsafe detour on an unmaintained back road. During severe weather or wildfire season, remain on maintained highways unless officials direct you elsewhere. If conditions look dangerous, changing or postponing the trip is often the safest choice.
Winter Driving and Chain Requirements
Mountain weather can change with little warning. Carry chains or approved traction devices when required, give snowplows plenty of room and never drive around a closure or barricade. ODOT's winter travel guide explains vehicle preparation, chain rules and safer driving practices for snow and ice.
Wildfire, Smoke and Summer Travel
Wildfires can close highways with little notice, while smoke can sharply reduce visibility long before a road closes. Check TripCheck immediately before departure and again during safe stops on longer trips. Keep extra water in the vehicle, maintain a full fuel tank when traveling through remote areas and avoid parking a hot vehicle on dry grass.

Travelers in Oregon can dial 511 for road and weather information. If 511 is unavailable, call 800-977-6368. Travelers calling from outside Oregon can use 503-588-2941. Pull over and park safely before using a phone or checking road information.
