Local history and character

The Nehalem people have deep roots in this area. Modern Manzanita developed as a small coastal community in the early 20th century, its name inspired by the evergreen shrubs common along the shoreline.

Manzanita feels intentionally small. Laneda Avenue reaches straight toward the ocean, the mountain rises just north of town, and most memorable days here are built from simple things done slowly.
